Family first?

Many thanks to reader PW who sent me this link. The allowances and support given to those with children is close to discrimination against those who don’t. This is something that I have thought for a while and since I have probably managed to alienate at least 70% of the population in my past few [...]

This not-so sporting life

What I am about to say will be considered heresy by some – I hate sport. As a recreational pursuit playing sport is excellent, it keeps you fit and everyone likes a bit of competition. Even I enjoy playing it. What I am talking about is the massively over-inflated status of sport and sports people [...]

On young people today

Following up on my piece yesterday about knowing that you are getting old I can reveal, today, that I must be. Sure I don’t feel that old and I still like the things I liked as a child, but I know that I am because people younger than me are both an enigma and an [...]

Indicators you might be getting old

There comes a time in everybody’s life when they realise that they are no longer young. For some this may create a pang of sadness, those lost years, regrets, missed chances and the sudden, daunting realisation that this is, in fact, it. An old look

I also added a Twitter widget. If you aren’t using Twitter I thoroughly recommend it.

A sorry state of affairs

News and current affairs are fundamental needs built into the psyche of almost all of us. The need to know what is going on, if it affects us and how it affects others.

I can imagine that when modern humans appeared on the scene early news was about the location of other tribes, land features and [...]

The other religious argument

While I don’t believe in any god it doesn’t mean that I am afraid of my quasi religious, dogmatic beliefs about computer operating systems. I came across this on the Digg RSS feed and rather than fill the comments section with my ideas thought I would write a response here. The article I refer to [...]

The fast and the furious

Speed kills. No, not the white powder that you buy on the streets, but speed as in velocity. To be precise, however, it isn’t speed that kills it is actually impact at speed that can kill. Note the emphasis on can because even an impact at speed may not actually kill. So really, as a [...]

The Great Experiment

Those of you with whom I am personally acquainted will not consider it news that I have Type I Diabetes. I was diagnosed when I was 24 and have lived with the condition for about 8 years. While it was once considered a debilitating disease modern understandings of the disease means that its management can [...]

When you’re right…

You may recall in my post about the recently released iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) that I predicted the release of the iPhone in Australia in June of this year. It seems that my prediction is ripe to be proven correct. Mactalk reports that Apple resellers here in Australia have been briefed by Apple that [...]
